A GROWERS PERSPECTIVE: Make on-farm decisions faster. Quickly see at a glance the past 7 days daily evapotranspiration, rainfall and water balance plus the weekly totals for each. And for the first time, today’s forecast evapotranspiration, together with todays rainfall and water balance in one screen. Just the growing conditions you need to know and nothing you don’t.

GENERAL

Q: Can I download the App on my iPad?

A: Our iPhone app is available to download for iPad, and works in exactly the same way.

When you search in the App Store (Search for "The Yield") on the iPad you will notice a drop down item on the top that says "iPad Only". If you select this item then choose "iPhone Only" you will be able to find our iPhone App and download it for you iPad. It will work in the same way as the App on your phone.

APP CONTENT

Q: What is Evapotranspiration?

A: Evapotranspiration is a calculation of the amount of water that evaporates out of the soil and transpires from the crop. It is a measure of the movement of water to the air from the soil and crop. Evapotranspiration is calculated for a grass reference crop. In the future we will be releasing crop specific evapotransipartion rates in a subscription version of the app.

Q: Does today's Evapotranspiration show a prediction or an actual value for today?

A: Today's evapotranspiration shows a prediction for today. it is based on predicted weather data and is updated throughout the day.

Q: When is today’s Evapotranspiration calculated?

A: Evapotranspiration is calculated every six hours and today’s value will get updated throughout the day. The updates run at 1am, 7am, 1pm, 7pm so you may notice the number change slightly during the day. These changes occur as actual and forecast weather information is updated throughout the day.

Q: What is the water droplet showing?

A: The water droplet is a visual representation of the water balance for your region based on your selected weather station. It is not an exact indicator, it’s a visual guide. Water balance is calculated by subtracting evapotranspiration from rainfall. You can see the accumulated water balance for the past 7 days by scrolling left.

Q: The app tells me there is a zero water balance, what does this mean?

A: This means that the calculated amount of evapotranspiration in the past 24 hours has been equal to the amount of rainfall in the same period.

Q: What does the dotted line represent on the droplet?

A: The dotted line on the droplet represents the point when the amount of evapotranspiration equals the amount of rainfall. This is when the app displays a water balance of 0mm.

Q: I can see the past 7 days evapotranspiration, can I get the next 7 days evapotranspiration?

A: Forecast of evapotranspiration for the next 7 days is not available in our Free App. We will be releasing a subscription version of the app in the future which will have a 7 day forecast for crop specific evapotranpiration. Please sign up to our mailing list to be updated when the next version of the app is available for download.

Q: Where can I see extra detail on the charts?

A: We've tried to make it as simple as possible to quickly get the information you need at a glance. To get the exact readings for a chart, tap on the day you are interested in and you will see a red line with the parameters for that particular day displayed in the white box at the top of the chart. You can drag the red line across the screen to see the information for each day. For example, to view the exact air temperature later in the week, tap on the chart on the day you are interested in. You will get a red line hovering over the yellow bar and the white pop-out will display the minimum and maximum forecast air temp for that day.

Q: What do the coloured dots represent on the wind speed chart?

A: Tap the wind speed screen and you will get the next 7 days wind speed and direction chart, underneath which is the key to the wind speeds represented by coloured dots on the chart.

WEATHER UPDATES

Q: How often is the data updated?

A: Depending on the weather station, it can vary from once a day, to every 10 minutes. We access the most recent data available.

Q: Why can’t I see past 7 days Air Temp or Relative Humidity?

A: The app was designed with and for growers. You indicated that these parameters weren’t of any great value, so we left them out, we show you the information you need and nothing you don’t. Want to give us some feedback on the app? Tell us what you think on info@theyield.com

LOCATION SERVICES

Q: Why doesn’t the app automatically select my nearest weather station when I move around?

A: Automatically searching for your location takes lots of battery life. If the app was constantly looking for the nearest weather station, your phone life would be reduced significantly.

When you first download the app you will be prompted to allow location services on your phone. This enables you to then use the + Use Current function to location your nearest weather station. Otherwise you can search for a location manually by using the +Add Location function.

While using the app if you want to view data for another location, you need to manually move between locations. You can add addition locations in the +Add Location section. All locations you have viewed are saved in this list.

Q: Why can't the auto location finder find me?

A: The auto location works by using your GPS and/or Location Services. If you didn't enable Location Services when you downloaded the app, then the app won't be able to locate your current position. To receive accurate growing conditions for your current location, make sure you have GPS and/or Location Services enabled.

Q: How do I view and save another location?

A: To find another location, tap the pin icon to the left of the location name. This will take you to another screen where you can: + Add Location + Use Current Location Type in the name or postcode of a location and then hit the “Return” key. If you’re not sure of spelling, enter as much as you know and the system will supply you with a list of close matches to choose from. Once you have selected a location, the system will automatically keep it in the Locations Screen for you to access again.

Q: How do I delete a location?

A: Tap the pin icon to the left of the location name. This will take you to the Add Location screen where you will see the list of all the locations you have viewed. To delete a location simply tap the circle icon on the right hand side of the location you no longer want to keep. It’s that simple.

Q: How many locations can I save?

A: There is no limit to the number of locations you can save.

NAVIGATION

Q: How do I move around the app?

A: There are two ways to get around the app: • To move between today, past and forecast, you can tap the navigation icons at the top of the screen OR you can simply swipe left and right. • To view more growing condition information under Today, Past and Forecast, keep swiping down. For example, swipe left to move from the Today screen to the Forecast screen. You’ll see the next 7 days wound speed and direction forecast, then simply swipe down for your 7 day rainfall predictions, swipe down again for air temp then relative humidity.

SYSTEMS

Q: Why isn’t the app working or updating?

A: We endeavour to operate our servers so they are up and running 100% of the time with no bugs in our system. The reality is, however, that all software has bugs and no server has 100% uptime. We are always striving to iron out these bugs and build better back up servers to accommodate for server down time, but we are afraid there will no doubt be some unseen issues. If the app hasn't been working normally for a period longer than 24 hours you can try to reset the app by closing it and reopening it. If that fails delete and reinstall the app via the app store If you are having ongoing problems with the app, please let us know on help@theyield.com
