Role

We are ready to launch our services in the USA and then other international markets in coming years. We are currently looking for a DevOps Lead to help build and lead our DevOps team and operational capability to deliver reliable, scalable, resilient software that will help us achieve our global ambitions.

As the DevOps Lead at The Yield you will work with the CTO, Architects, Hardware, and Software and Data Science teams to deliver on our goals. You will build and lead a diverse, highly creative, agile, human centred team. You’ll be a self-starter and highly motivated thinker who loves to learn new things and enjoys when no two days are the same.

We are seeking someone who is experienced at building and managing teams in a complex start-up environment, who is passionate and eager to learn and also to share their skills and knowledge in the ever-evolving DevOps space. The role involves working in a rapidly growing engineering team, leading a key group in the development and continuous improvement of our cloud infrastructure and systems. You’ll gain exposure to many different technologies in this role and will work with a highly proficient team of engineers and data scientists.

Responsibilities

People

Process, Tools, and Innovation

• Ensure a solid and practical set of processes are in place to successfully deliver reliable and commercially valued solutions
• Transform the way we get things done to increase productivity and the value of our solutions
• Ensure the team has the right tools and training in place to support their work and ensure we work as efficiently as possible
• Work with the team to assess current practices and devise improvements

Communication

• Communicate with Senior Executives and peers to convey progress, status, ideas, plans and needs.
• Teach the broader team about all aspects of project management whilst always being open to learning new skills and concepts from the team.

Planning, Reporting & Delivery

• Project and resource planning
• Track and report on progress
• Work with the Project Office

Technical Oversight (including Security)

• This role will oversee a substantial transformation from Australia to global markets both architecturally and operationally
• Ensure that the team leverages the right technologies to provide the best solutions and to the right standards
• Keep the team abreast of new industry developments and adopt new ideas in a sensible and controlled way

Production Oversight

• Ensure that the system is running securely, smoothly and cost effectively

Skills

To be successful in this role you will have:

• 3+ years’ experience building and managing a DevOps team with team members in Australia and overseas
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a demanding environment
• Ability to work in a team of highly skilled professional peers, collaborating to deliver complex projects
• Strong and recent hands-on experience with DevOps aspects of development of large and complex cloud based systems in Azure and AWS
• Strong working knowledge and hands on experience of Containerisation and Kubernetes
• Demonstrated ability to ensure the security of cloud systems as they are being built and then during operation
• Good working knowledge of branching strategies and associated configuration management
• Hands on experience with Terraform, Jenkins CI/CD, Grafana
• Scripting experience in Python, PowerShell &/or Bash
• Hands on experience with Linux and Windows systems
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Skills that will be highly desired but not essential:

• Supporting a Data Science team with highly scalable production models in place
• Experience in a helpdesk / network support environment

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you are likely to have:

• Bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Equivalent skills through experience and on the job learning.
