Role

We’re looking for a Technical Project Manager who will take ownership of running projects in Data Science and Engineering that will enable The Yield to expand into the US market, as well as helping to raise the project management capability of the whole team and other groups within The Yield. This is a significant role and pivotal to The Yield’s success.

The Yield is launching its services in the USA and then other countries in coming years. The Technical Project Manager will plan and run our projects in collaboration with their peers and the greater team.

This role will take primary responsibility for planning and executing a large development program to enable us to launch in the US and then Europe. You will be involved in the planning and delivery of projects, working with a sophisticated and high powered multi-disciplinary team.

This role will involve coaching the team in planning, estimation and project tracking and reporting. The teams each have good discipline around the use of tools, such as JIRA, for day-to-day task management - you will take this to the next level. You will work in a rapidly growing engineering team, driving key initiatives that are critical to our success.

This is one of the most exciting programs of work with large scope covering advanced cloud software, web and mobile applications and highly specialised data science applied to agtech – one of the most rapidly growing sectors in the world right now.

Responsibilities

1.   Project Management

• Bring experts together to define, plan and estimate a complex and interactive set of projects to meet our overall objectives
• Work with the teams to execute on our plans, track and report progress and revise plans as things evolve
• Help with overall resource management of Data Science and Engineering in collaboration with department managers
• Coach and mentor the team to improve their capability as a team and help them to grow as individuals in their ability to plan, estimate and report

2.  Process and Tools

• Work with the team to select, configure and deploy processes, tools and standards for project management within The Yield

3.  Consulting Skills

• Work with customers to understand their technical environment and bring internal experts to enable customer data integration
• Collaborate with customers’ technical teams to build solutions together

4.  Communication

• Communicate with Senior Executives and peers to convey progress, status, ideas, plans and needs.

5.   Planning, Reporting & Delivery

• Project and resource planning
• Track and report on progress
• Work with the broader Project Office

Skills

To be successful in this role you will have:

• 5+ years’ experience as a Technical Project Manager
• Experience working in customer facing project management roles bringing solutions together between customers and solution providers
• Proven ability to plan, estimate and manage multiple projects in a demanding environment
• Track record of teaching and coaching people in project management
• Ability to work in a team of highly skilled professional peers, collaborating to deliver complex projects
• Track record of putting project management systems and practices in place including integrating traditional PM tools with JIRA
• A strong technical background in software and/or Data Science
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Skills that will be highly desired but not essential:

• Commercial consulting experience
• Supporting a Data Science team with highly scalable production models in place
• Experience in a helpdesk/network support environment

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you are likely to have:

• Formal qualification in Project Management
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
• Equivalent skills through experience and on the job learning
