The Yield wins ‘Industry in IoT’ award at IoTAA’s IoT Impact Awards 2018

Melbourne, 14 September 2018 – Australian agtech company, The Yield, was this week recognised with the ‘Industry in IoT’ award at the 2018 IoT Impact Awards. The award was open to entrants across all industries in Australia powered by the Internet of Things (IoT).

The awards ceremony, which rounded off the first day of the 2018 IoT Impact conference run by the Internet of Things Alliance Australia (IoTAA), saw leaders from the Australian IoT landscape awarded across three categories. The IoT Impact Awards recognise excellence, innovation and achievement in the IoT industry and are given based on the potential to impact and benefit the entire Internet of Things ecosystem.

Awarding the ‘Industry in IoT’ accolade, the IoTAA acknowledged The Yield’s industry business impact and the new business model it has created enabled by IoT technology.

“It’s a great honour to have won this year’s IoT Impact award in the ‘Industry in IoT’ category,” said Ros Harvey, founder and managing director at The Yield. “We’re pleased to see The Yield and the growing agtech industry recognised as an increasing force in the Australian IoT and technology community.”

“Australia is the perfect breeding ground for agtech innovation; growers are innovative because they need to be. We’re helping them to solve real problems, while creating reliable and accurate technology they can use every day,” Harvey continued.

“Our technology uses IoT to achieve real benefit; the success of IoT technology, particularly in agtech, is about more than data. It’s about how we put it into production in a scalable and commercial way, with a user interface that customers can understand,” Harvey concluded.

Agtech and IoT in agriculture took a front seat at the IoT Impact conference this year, with The Yield founder Ros Harvey moderating a session on day two of the conference titled Increasing Australia’s competitive position in food and agriculture through technology. The session featured Harry Debney, CEO at Costa Group, Garry Gale, head of agribusiness at NAB, and Ben Van Delden, head of agrifood tech and head of markets at KPMG.

IoT Impact is a two-day learning campus for Australia business executives to understand and plan for the impact of the Internet of Things in Australia. According to the IoTAA, by 2020 the number of IoT connected devices globally is expected to be 30 billion, and this is forecast to grow to 100 billion by 2025. It estimates that by 2025 the IoT market could be generating revenue close to USD 10 trillion.
